Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival

Arrival, reception and transfer in the hotel. Overnight.

Day 2: Athens Sightseeing

This tour gives you an opportunity to observe the striking contrasts that make Athens such a fascinating city. Our expert guides will take you to see the Panathenaic Stadium where the first Olympic Games of modern times were held in 1896 (short stop). Continue and pass by the Prime Minister's residence (ex Royal Palace) guarded by the Euzones in their colourful uniform, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Hadrian's Arch, the Parliament and the memorial to the Unknown Soldier, the Academy, the University, the National Library, the Constitution Square (Syntagma). On the Acropolis visit the Architectural Masterpieces of the Golden Age of Athens: The Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion and finally "the harmony between material and spirit", the monument that "puts order in the mind", the Parthenon. Continue and visit the place where at last the statues found their home and admire the wonders of the classical era: The new Acropolis Museum.

Day 3: Delphi /One day

Depart from your hotel early in the morning; we are passing by OLYMPIC STADIUM to see the Athens 2004 Olympics main venue. We continue through Thebes, Levadia and Arachova for Delphi, known in ancient times as the navel of the world. Pass by Castalia Spring; visit at the archaeological site the Temple of Apollo famous for its oracle and the museum of Delphi, with its spectacular finds, including the bronze Charioteer, the Naxian Sphinx and the Statue of Antinoos. After lunch return to Athens via the picturesque mountain village of Arachova, built on the south slopes of mount Parnassus, well known for its attractive hand-woven carpets, rugs and quilts, as well as for its wine and cheese (short stop). Overnight.

Day 4: Cape Sounion

Morning at leisure. Lunch and departure for a wonderful drive along the scenic coastal road which affords a splendid view of the Saronic Gulf, passing through some of Athens most beautiful suburbs (Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, Varkiza) to Cape Sounion where you will visit the 5th century B.C. Temple of Poseidon with one of the most breathtaking panoramic views in the world (on a clear day you can see at least seven islands). Return in the hotel in the afternoon. Overnight.

Day 5: Argolis / One Day

After a short stop at the Corinth Canal drive to Mycenae and visit the archaeological site and the tomb of Agamemnon. After lunch through Argos proceed to Nafplion the first capital of modern Greece with its Venetian fortress of Palamidi and the fortified islet of Bourtzi (short stop). Continue to Epidaurus and visit the ancient theatre, world famous for its outstanding acoustics. Finally, drive along the coastal road of Saronic Gulf to Athens. Overnight in Athens.

Day 6: Athens

Free day in Athens.

Day 7: One day cruise

Departure by bus to Piraeus port. Sail for the island of Aegina (optional visit to the famous Temple of Athena Aphaia). Cruise through the straits to Poros (visit). Lunch on board and then on to Hydra (time at leisure for shopping or swimming). Sail back to Piraeus and transfer by bus to Athens. Overnight.

Day 8: Departure

Having finished your breakfast in your hotel, you will be transferred to the airport for your departure.
