THE COUNTRY’S HISTORY- and the history of the people- is particularly rich and complex.

From the Neolithic period to our days, Greece has known a series of rich civilizations- Cretan (2000-1450 B.C.), Mycenaean (1600-1200 B.C.), Classic (from the VI century B.C), Byzantine (VI-XV centuries A.D.)- but also a series of vicissitudes which have brought sudden disappearance or disintegration to many such civilizations: the mysterious disappearance of the Mycenaean civilization XII B.C., the Roman invasion, the Crusades, the Turkish occupation, the domination of foreign rulers, world wars, civil wars, military coups.
